El Enemigo is een van de meest opwindende wijnmakers uit Mendoza en behoort samen met ‘Catena Zapata’, ‘Domaine Nico’, ‘Durigutti’, ‘El Porvenir de Cafayate’ en ‘Per Se’ tot de ultieme top ‘First Growths’ van Argentinië.

2016 is de eerste jaargang van ‘As Bravas’ Malbec en kreeg al direct een score van maar liefst 99/100 Parker.

“As Bravas is my favorite red in the El Enemigo portfolio and one of Argentina’s wines of the year. Made with whole bunches of co-fermented Malbec and 5% Semillón from El Cepillo, it’s very much a cooler climate Uco Valley style from Alejandro Vigil, with aromas of laurel, rose petal and thyme, filigree tannins, barely a whisper of oak and a palate of plum, redcurrant, white pepper and wild strawberry. ‘There is a new top of the range produced with pure Malbec from a very small plot in the Cordón El Cepillo. It’s a cool place with a small slope in a mostly flat vineyard with very different soils and angular stones in a place that has glacier moraine, which is completely different from the rest of the vineyard. It makes the grapes ripen much earlier and gives a very strict and stony wine with a textured palate with abundant dusty tannins. 2016 was a super cold and rainy year, and the 2016 As Bravas Malbec is incredible freshness. It’s only medium-bodied with gobsmacking balance and is incredibly harmonious, nuanced and subtle, with all that it needs for a very long life in bottle. This is serious, tight, austere and incredibly elegant. It matured in 2,000-liter oak foudres for some 60 months. It was bottled in April 2022.’ Luis Gutiérrez (30/11/2022)

‘Savory tobacco, dark truffles, undergrowth and a hint of cedar to the black fruit. Super succulent and energetic on the palate, which has a rapid, brisk feel to it. Racy acidity gallops across the mineral and transparent palate. Long, linear and super delicious. A unique malbec with a huge contrast between the savory nose and austere palate.’
